The New Kindle: Smaller, Faster, Cheaper
The New Kindle: Smaller, Faster, Cheaper
[original article in mashable.com The New Kindle: Smaller, Faster, Cheaper]Today, Amazon announced the newest generation of Kindle, its popular e-reader.
As hardware is wont to do, the newest version of the Kindle has become smaller and lighter while retaining its 6-inch reading area. Contrast on the screen has improved by 50%, and page turns are 20% faster. Storage on the device has doubled, and battery life is up to an entire month. And for you type geeks, new custom fonts and hinting on the device mean that words and letters will be more crisp, clear and natural-looking.
What more consumers will be interested in, however, is the price on the WiFi-only version of Kindle: a cool $139, which undercuts Barnes & Noble’s Nook e-reader by $10.
Kindle with 3G wireless connectivity will still retail for $189, and Kindle’s larger, newspaper- and magazine-oriented DX model is selling for $379.
The new devices will ship to customers in more than 140 countries and 30 territories starting on August 27.
We last saw some significant Kindle price cuts in June, when the device’s price tag dropped $70 from $259 to $189. At the time, we chalked this move up to a price war with the Nook, which is Kindle’s closest competitor in terms of price and features. Although the iPad is competing with e-readers for consumer dollars and is a popular hypothetical choice among this blog’s readers, single-purpose e-readers are priced to win this particular battle.
And Kindle’s not doing too badly in terms of selling e-books, either. One author has already sold a million copies of his novels in the Kindle Store. And Amazon says their Kindle editions are now outselling their hardcover books.
Given the low new price of the WiFi-only Kindle, would you be more inclined to purchase this device, either for yourself or as a gift, than you would have been previously? Ultimately, do you think consumer demand is broad enough to continually support both tablets and e-readers indefinitely, or will the does-it-all functionality of tablets win out in the long run?

New Microsoft Tech Makes Battery Changes a Breeze
On Thursday, Microsoft announced a technology called InstaLoad, which will allow you to insert a battery into electronic devices any way you please.
The InstaLoad technology will be licensed on a royalty-free basis, Microsoft said. Duracell was named as a partner for the technology, as well as several manaufacturers of electronic devices, including ClearSound's hearing aids, NovaTac's LED flashlights, and Black Diamond's headlamps for mountaineering.
Put simply, an InstaLoad-compliant device allows the user to replace the battery in any direction, without the need to line up the "+" or positive terminals in a given direction. Multiple batteries can also be inserted in any direction. An InstaLoad terminal contains both a positive and negative terminal, and works with CR123, AA, AAA, C or D batteries, either the disposable versions or rechargeables.
The battery technology does not require any special circuitry. "At one end of the battery, the battery interfaces with either the positive contacts (light gray) or the negative contacts (black). The battery interfaces with the opposite contact at its other end. When coupled with PCB traces, proper power polarity is automatically delivered to the device," Microsoft said.
Microsoft has filed for a patent on the invention, and touted InstaLoad as a technology that could be convenient, as well as useful in situations where a user may not have the time to examine a battery diagram, such as in law enforcement.
"Microsoft is pleased to offer a royalty-free license program to suppliers and manufacturers for this class of accessibility devices," said Rusty Jeffress, corporate vice president, Specialized Devices & Applications, Microsoft, in a statement. "We believe the InstaLoad feature can make a difference in the lives of those people who need and use these products on a daily basis."

iPhone rivals call out Steve Jobs
What is Apple trying to do with this?
iPhone rivals call out Steve Jobs
Cellphone makers rebuff the Apple chief's claim that their handsets have similar antenna problems.
July 20, 2010|By Kristena Hansen, Los Angeles Times
Some of the world's biggest cellphone makers sent a strong signal Monday to Apple Inc.
Chief Executive Steve Jobs: The iPhone 4's antenna problem is his alone.
In strongly worded rebuffs of Jobs' claims that reception problems are an industrywide issue, HTC Corp., Research in Motion, Nokia Corp., Samsung Electronics Co. and Motorola Inc. said the kind of signal loss plaguing the new iPhone 4 does not afflict their handsets.

HOWTO configure your WIFI & IP addresses in your NOKIA 5800 XpressMusic
Normally you can access easily to a WiFi Hotspot simply opening the browser & saying OK to your Nokia 5800 when it asks to connect toa n autodetected gíreles connection.
But sometimes, the AP (Access Point) where you want to connect doesn’t have enabled the DHCP server (automatic IP addresses assignation)
To assign a custom IP address you will have to follow the next steps:
1. Enter in Settings -> Connectivity -> Destinations -> Internet
Select the Acces Point to edit or just add a new one Options-> New Access Point
Fill in the WIFI adjustments: SSID, Security Mode (WEP, WPA…), password (if necessary), etc.
2. Select Options - > Advanced Settings -> IPv4 Settings (or IPv6) and fill in the parameters.
For example:
Phone IP Address: 192.168.0.10
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS addresses: automatic
That’s it!!
Easy, isn’t it?

Installing Joomla using a free-hosting service
First you need a hosting service, unless you want to install joomla in your localhost, (locally in your computer) to make all the testing in your hard drive.
For this second option, I will soon write an article about installing joomla locally.
The Hosting:
As you may know, the hosting service is simply a server with a hard disk with a few Mega/Gigabytes reserved for you somewhere in the net.
You can pay for it (hostgator or godaddy for example), or just sign in for a free hosting account (like www.0fees.net .)
There are lots of free hosting services, you can have a look and compare searching "free hosting" at forum.joomla.org.
Let’s explain the free option ;-)
How to create a free account for free hosting
For this tutorial, I've used 0fees.net website. You can create your new account in www.0fees.net, in 3 easy steps:
1. Click on the "Order Now" option.
2. Fill in your username, password, email and other details. Click “Register”
3. Check you email inbox for the “Account Activation Required”. Click the link they’ve sent to you and, that’s it!
NOTE: it’s very important to make sure you save your account settings shown once the registration is completed.
How to install Joomla using CPanel & automatic server-side software installation
First of all, you have to log in your control panel. You will find this normally in http://cpanel.0fees.net where you will have to enter your “Control panel username” and “Control panel password”.

Redirecting your main domain to a folder
How many times you begin programming your website in a subfolder named /joomla or /wordpress or /gallery?
Once everything is finished and tested, why not leaving it in its place and having your domain “pointing” to that subfolder?
It’s very simple, you just have to edit .htaccess file, normally placed in your root directory and usually empty.
It’s important to back it up before modifying it in case your server falls down to the floor :-O

Example: your domain is called www.domain.com and you have your wordpress installed in the /worpress folder. Edit .htaccess file and insert the following code:Nevertheless I always recommend to have your CMS (joomla, drupal, mambo, etc) or whatever you installed – wordpress, osCommerce, etc, in your domain root directory.
